Overview
 
Rob provides consulting services across the following domains:
  • Strategic advice, re procurement strategy, tendering and contract documentation and processes, for services and works related to capital projects.
  • Strategic advice, and operational support, related to project management of capital projects.
  • Assessment and improvement of enterprise project capability, addressing processes, tools, knowledge, and organisational alignment, across the spectrum of portfolio, programme and project management, and procurement and contract management.
Rob develops and delivers facilitated workshops and training programmes directed from senior management group down, covering: enterprise capability enhancement; project management; and specialist topics including construction procurement strategy, contract law and construction contracts, risk management, and negotiation.
 
Rob is actively involved in construction contract dispute resolution, acting in the roles of claims advisor, independent expert, mediator, adjudicator, and arbitrator.
 
Rob is an accredited Gateway Review team leader for project reviews of major capital projects, with the NZ Government, and with Australian Federal and State Governments.
 
 
Qualifications
 
Honours degree in civil engineering [University of Canterbury]
Fellow of the Arbitrators' and Mediators' Institute of NZ
      reciprocal Fellowship rights with Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

Experience
  • Specialist advisor function developing project procurement strategies and project plans for multinational and government enterprises.
  • Strategic advisory roles in review of project management capabilities across multinational and government enterprises.
  • Project Gateway reviews for major infrastructure projects [to $2billion] in NZ and Aus.
  • Development and documentation of project management process controls, quality systems, and contract management processes, for large and small organisations including government agencies, contractors, consultants, and principals.
  • Developing and presenting workshops and training courses on project management, risk management, procurement strategies, contract law, and construction contract supervision in NZ, Australia, India, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore.
  • Initial work experience as a civil and structural engineer.
  • Involved in the building and construction industry in NZ for the last 25 years as a project manager of capital works projects. In this time responsibilities have included managing complex multidisciplinary engineering and construction projects up to $200m in current value, in the petrochemical, infrastructure, health, prisons, and commercial sectors.
  • Project experience encompasses: bridges, buildings - including commercial, high rise, corrections facilities, hospital & health facilities - canals, motorways, offshore oil platforms, outfalls, pipelines, substations, transmission lines, tunnels - hard rock and large diameter soft rock - wastewater treatment, water intakes, wharves.
  • Appointments to dispute resolution tribunals as Expert, Adjudicator and Arbitrator.
  • Claims analysis and support to clients and contractors, and as litigation support.
